Tulsa Race Massacre digital resources

Leer en Español

Tulsa Public Schools families,

This year marks 100 years since the events of the Tulsa Race Massacre stained Tulsa’s history. Decades of silence on the massacre have dishonored the dead and halted the healing process for the living.

This month, our students will have the opportunity to learn about the richness of Black Wall Street, the culture of Greenwood, and the resilience of Tulsans as we continue to heal from the events of the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre. We are committed to ending the silence by providing a safe place for students to reflect on the past, think critically on the present, and learn how to make a future society where all Tulsans share equitable rights, freedoms, and opportunities.

As a child growing up in Tulsa, I did not have the opportunity to learn about Black Wall Street or the Tulsa Race Massacre, and given the many years that we failed to adequately share this history, you may have had the same experience. I am grateful for the incredible work our team of educators has done to ensure that no child has that same gap of important knowledge, and we want to include you as well. So, we are providing your family with digital resources on the Tulsa Race Massacre and encourage you to have conversations with your children about what they are learning. You can view these resources at www.tulsaschools.org/tulsaracemassacre

Thank you for joining us to honor the legacy of Greenwood.
