Dear parents and families,

I am writing to share some important information about potential changes in the Memorial High School neighborhood. I am planning to recommend that the 6th grades in the Memorial High School feeder pattern be moved to Memorial Junior High School to create a 6th-8th grade middle school effective in the 2020-2021 school year. While the schools in the Memorial feeder pattern include Key, Grimes, Marshall, McClure and Salk elementary schools, McClure Elementary School will not be included in this recommendation.

We know from research and experience that minimizing transitions supports strong academic performance and helps foster meaningful relationships with teachers and peers. We have an exciting opportunity at McClure to consider the possibility of creating a pre-kindergarten through 8th grade campus. Over the coming months, we will work with Principal Jimenez and her team to explore this model. In the event that we proceed with this option in the 2021-2022 school year, we have decided to keep 6th grade at McClure for the 2020-2021 school year.

It is important to know that no decisions have been made at this point, and no changes will be made to the grade configuration of McClure in the 2020-2021 school year. We know that pre-kindergarten through 8th grade is a model that has proven success in school districts throughout the country, and we look forward to working with Principal Jimenez to determine how we might be able to create this configuration in our district.

Estimados padres de familia:

Me dirijo a ustedes para compartir información importante sobre posibles cambios que afectarán a las escuelas que se encuentran dentro del vecindario de Memorial High School. Pleneo recomendar que el 6to grado de las escuelas primarias que forman parte de la distribución escolar de Memorial High School, pasen a ser parte de Memorial Junior High School para crear una escuela secundaria del 6to al 8vo grado. Aunque las escuelas primarias Key, Grimes, Marshall, McClure y Salk forman parte de la distribución escolar de Memorial. McClure Elementary School no será incluida en esta recomendación.

En base a estudios y nuestra experiencia, sabemos que el minimizar los cambios y las transiciones, contribuye al sólido desempeño académico de los estudiantes y los ayuda a crear relaciones significativas con los maestros y sus compañeros. En McClure tenemos una gran oportunidad para considerar la posibilidad de crear una escuela con salones desde pre-kínder hasta el 8vo grado. Durante los próximos meses, estaremos trabajando con la directora Jimenez y su equipo para explorar este modelo educativo. En caso que procedamos con esta opción en el año escolar 2021-2022, hemos decidido mantener los salones de 6to grado en McClure para el año escolar 2020-2021.

Es importante subrayar que en estos momentos no se ha tomado ninguna decisión, no habrá ningún cambio a la configuración del nivel de grado en McClure para el año escolar 2020-2021. Sabemos que la educación preescolar desde pre-kínder hasta el octavo grado es un modelo educativo que ha demostrado ser exitoso en los distritos escolares de todo el país y esperamos trabajar con la directora Jiménez para determinar cómo podríamos crear esta configuración en nuestro distrito.
