Jenifer Butler is the 2025-2026 McClure Elementary Teacher of the Year!

Jenifer joined Team Tulsa in 2015 and has taught at McClure for 11 years. She currently teaches first grade. We asked her a few questions to learn more about her and her role.

What led you to a career in education?

I was led to a career in education by a deep belief in the power of relationships and the impact a consistent, caring adult can have on a child’s life. I have always been drawn to working with children, especially in those early years when curiosity is high and confidence is still forming. I saw education as a place where I could help children feel safe, seen, and capable while also nurturing their love of learning.

My own experiences growing up shaped this path as well. I learned early on the importance of patience, kindness, and community, and I wanted a career where those values mattered every day. Teaching allows me to blend creativity, structure, and compassion, meeting students where they are and helping them grow academically, socially, and emotionally.

Ultimately, I chose education because it is meaningful work. Being part of a child’s journey, celebrating their progress, and watching them discover their strengths is a privilege I never take lightly.

What is your favorite thing about your work? 

My favorite thing about my work is the relationships I build with my students. I value being a consistent, caring presence in their lives and creating a classroom that feels safe, warm, and welcoming. Watching children grow in confidence, find their voices, and discover their strengths brings me the greatest joy. I especially love witnessing those quiet moments turn into breakthroughs, when a student realizes they can do hard things and begins to believe in themselves.

What is one thing you are passionate about outside of teaching?

Outside of school, I am passionate about slowing down and enjoying the simple things that bring me joy. I love gardening and spending time outdoors, especially relaxing in our hummingbird sanctuary and watching them come and go. I enjoy riding our motorcycle and the sense of freedom that comes with it. I also love listening to Mr. Butler play guitar, which is one of my favorite ways to unwind and be present in the moment. These activities help me recharge and bring balance to my life.
